Zinc Protophorin (Zn (II) - protophorin IX)(C34H32N4O4Zn,626.02) is a competitive inhibitor of heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) with oral activity, significantly reducing the protective effect of phloroglucinol (PG) on H2O2. Zinc Protophyrin can be used as a screening marker for iron deficiency in individual pregnant women and children, as well as to assess the combination of iron status and hemoglobin concentration in the population. Zinc Protophoryrin has anticancer activity.
