Liquiritin is a flavonoid isolated from licorice and is an effective and competitive AKR1C1 inhibitor with an IC50 of 0.62 for AKR1C1, AKR1C2, and AKR1C3, respectively μ M，0.61 μ M and 3.72 μ M。 Liquiritin effectively inhibits AKR1C1 mediated progesterone metabolism in vivo.
