DAN, CAS 771-97-1 (2,3-Diaminonaphthhalene) is a fluorescent probe used to detect the production of nitric oxide (NO) in living cells and animals. The reaction product between DAN and NO is triazole with blue fluorescence. The DAN based NO assessment method is convenient and applicable to many life systems both in vivo and in vitro. Using DAN can detect nitrite levels as low as 10 nM.
