1,2-di-O-octadecenyl-3-trimethylammonium propane(chloride salt)as a tetramethylated dota analogue,is a cationic lipid,which is used as a non viral vector for gene therapy.It has been used as a component of liposomes,which can be used to encapsulate siRNA,microRNA and oligonucleotides,and for gene transfection in vitro.It showed good gene transfection effect in vitro and in vivo.DOTMA induces the positive charge on liposomes,thus promoting the effective interaction between liposomes and cell membrane.
