Dihydrostreptomycin is a key skeletal molecule and biologically active lipid in the sphingolipid metabolism pathway.Compared with its unsaturated analogue sphingosine, DHSM lacks double bonds at positions 4-5,which gives it different metabolic fates and biological activities due to structural differences.DHSM is mainly synthesized by serine and palmitoyl CoA catalyzed by serine palmitoyltransferase,and is a direct precursor for de novo synthesis of sphingolipids (including ceramides,sphingolipids,glycosphingolipids, etc.).
