Maleimide is one of the commonly used thiol modification reagents.In most proteins,the reaction site is usually located on the cysteine residue which has been or will eventually remove cystine.Unlike iodoacetamide,maleimide does not react with histidine and methionine under physiological conditions.Fluorescent-5-maleimide,like 5-tmria,is the most common fluorescent dye used in thiol modified proteins.
