Fluorescein (FAM) is one of the oldest fluorescent dyes.The derivatives of fam contain cyclooctynyl (dibenzocyclooctyne, abbreviated as dbco or adibo),which are used for conjugation of azides with copper free,strain promoted cycloaddition (spaac).Fam-dbco can be used to label proteins,peptides,nucleic acids and other molecules containing azide groups.Azide reacts spontaneously with dbco after simple mixing.This reaction does not need any catalyst and is highly efficient.
